The Lymphedema Treatment Clinic of the First Affiliated Hospital of University of South China is the first specialized clinic of its kind in southern Hunan. V. Comprehensive Decongestive Therapy for Lymphedema
Lymphedema results from impaired lymphatic circulation, leading to the accumulation of lymphatic fluid in the interstitial spacescausing a series of pathological changes, including tissue edema, chronic inflammation,tissue fibrosis. Lymphedema is a chronicslowly progressive condition that currently cannot be completely cured. However, with timely treatmentproper care, symptoms can be alleviated.
At present, the most effective treatment for lymphedema is Comprehensive Decongestive Therapy (CDT), which primarily includes skin care, Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), multi-layer low-stretch bandaging,functional exercises.
The steps of CDT for lymphedema are as follows:
