Recently, the Teaching and Research Office of Laboratory Medicine, with Dr. Li Pei as the first authorProfessor Liu Shuangquan as the corresponding author, published a teaching research paper titled “Researchpractice of the BOPPPS teaching model based on the OBE concept in clinical basic laboratory experiment teaching” inBMC Medical Education.
This study, grounded in the principles of Outcome-Based Education (OBE)tailored to the distinctive features of medical laboratoryScience, integrates the innovative BOPPPS (bridge-in, learning objective, pretest, participatory learning, posttestsummary) teaching modelthe instructionresearch of clinical basic laboratory testing. The design of teaching objectives, content, methods is centered on the personalized learning needs of students. With a novel research approach, the study effectively enhances students’learning motivationfosters the development of clinical reasoning skills. The positive educational outcomes suggest that the approach is not only effective but also applicable to teaching in other clinical disciplines.
This marks the first time the Laboratory Medicine Center has published a medical education paper indexed by the Science Citation Index (SCI) in an international comprehensive journal—a milestone that represents a significant advancement in the Center’s medical education research effortsa notable achievement for our institution.
As the saying goes,“No pains, no gains.” TheTeachingResearch Office of Laboratory Medicine has consistently emphasized faculty development, encouraged innovation in teaching research, actively explored educational strategies tailored to the unique needs of the discipline, thereby contributing to the high-quality development of medical laboratory education.
On October 28, Professor Liu Shuangquan delivered a presentation on teaching model reforminnovation at the Hunan Provincial Annual Conferenceof Medical Laboratory Education. At the same conference, Dr. Li Pei was awarded second prize in the final round of the Teaching Micro-Lecture Competition. On November 9, Professor LiuDr. Li were invited to attend the National Academic Conference on Medical Laboratory Education in Higher Education, where they shared the department’s recent work on reforming practice-based instruction. Their presentation was well received, and significantly enhanced the national visibility of our medical laboratory technology program.
With deep rootssteadfast commitment, the Medical Laboratory Science program has made steady progress since being designated a National First-Class Undergraduate Program Development Site in 2022. Under the guidancesupport of the University of South Chinathe affiliated hospital, the program remains dedicated to cultivating high-level professionals with a solid theoretical foundation, strong practical skills, a strong sense of responsibility,an innovative mindset.
