The Ophthalmology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of University of South China was awarded the title of 2023 Outstanding "Exemplary Center" among national Brightness Centers.
On January 6, the "2024 China Initiative for Standardized DiagnosisTreatment of Fundus Diseases · Launch Conference" hosted by the National Clinical Research Center for Ocular Diseases was held in Fuzhou. During the conference, the "2023 Brightness Center - Outstanding Brightness Center" award ceremony took place, with only 10 hospitals nationwide receiving this honorthe Ophthalmology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of University of South China being the sole recipient in Hunan Province.
Since joining the Brightness Center in May 2021, all Brightness doctorsnurses at the First Affiliated Hospital of University of South China have strictly adhered to the operational quality control requirements of the project. Patients with best-corrected visual acuity below 0.8central retinal thickness exceeding 250um underwent preliminary screening per SOP.patients testing positive in screenings shall be enrolled in the Brightness Center Program for standardized treatmentfollow-up. In May 2022, the hospital passed the assessmentwas designated as a "Brightness Center · Formal Center". In the first quarter of 2023, a total of 109 Brightness Centers nationwide were officially recognized as an "Exemplary Center". The First Affiliated Hospital of University of South China ranked 11th nationally1st in Hunan Province, being awarded the title of "Exemplary Center" among the first batch of Brightness Centers.
The Ophthalmology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of University of South China has precisely focused on fundus diseases, established a homogeneousstandardized fundus diagnosistreatment model, improved the management model for patients with chronic eye diseases, continuously optimized the medical service modelprocess,actively carried out multi-disciplinary cooperation to improve the efficiency of medical servicesenhance the patients medical experience.
Statistics show that in 2023, with the joint efforts of all medical staff, the Ophthalmology Department significantly accelerated the development of its fundus disease specialist team. The rate of fundus disease diagnosistreatment rapidly increased, with the number of vitrectomies rising to nearly 800, a 93.4% increase, thereby accelerating the standardization of fundus disease diagnosistreatment capabilities within the hospital. In addition, the hospital has strengthened the construction of the telemedicine collaboration network by building a medical consortium, utilized information technology to promote the extension of high-quality ophthalmology medical resources to the community level,conducted fundus disease screening for grassroots people in combination with physical examinations,provided comprehensive, fair, thereby providing accessible eye health services to the people in the region.
In the future, the Ophthalmology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of University of South China will leverage the Brightness Center to continuously improve clinical competencies among ophthalmologists, establish standardized diagnostictreatment workflows for fundus diseases, further optimize chronic disease management models for these diseases,achieve end-to-end management of fundus disease patients spanning "screening - diagnosis - treatment - follow-up". It will drive comprehensive advancements in fundus disease diagnosis, teaching,research, better promote high-quality development of the fundus disease discipline, safeguard the eye health of the public,contribute to advancing the "Healthy China" Initiative!
