Recently, the Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) officially announced on its website the appointment of Professor Liu Zuguo, a renowned Chinese ophthalmologist, to its Board of Directors.
Professor Liu has become the first ophthalmologist in China (including Hong Kong, Macao,Taiwan) to serve on the TFOS Board of Directorsis also the only Chinese member on the board.
TFOS brings together the world’s top expertsscholars in the field of ophthalmology, particularly in the fields of tear filmocular surface. Professor Liu’s election to the Board of Directors signifies the high recognition of Chinese experts in the field of ophthalmology, especially in tear filmocular surface, by their global counterparts.

The Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) is a global leader in eye healtheducation.
TFOS’s global team includes scientists, clinicians,industry professionals in the field of ophthalmology, who are jointly committed to creating a brighterclearer world for humanity.
In the past few decades, TFOS achieved fruitful results in research on the ocular surfacetear film, established a global international research team,further clarified the compositionregulatory mechanisms of the ocular surfacetear film. It has revealed that the tear film plays a key role in maintaining the integrity of corneal function, antibacterial activity,visual acuity. Moreover, through statistical research on a large number of population samples, it has been found that changesdefects in the tear film can also lead to symptoms of ocular surface dryness, corneal ulcersperforations, an increased incidence of eye diseases,potential risks of vision losseven blindness. To further strengthen research in the field of vision, we have founded the non-profit organization TFOS, dedicated to three major visions:
1. Advance the global research,literacyscience communication,educational aspects of the tear filmocular surface.
2. Organizecoordinate annual meetings, academic conferences, expert consensuses, seminars, exchanges,related major events in the field of tear filmocular surface;
3. Stimulate cooperative interactions among members, encouragepromote interdisciplinary researchthe integration of industry, academia,research,attract new members from other fields to enter the field of tear filmocular surface research (such as scientists in basic scientific research fields, clinical medical workers,related pharmaceutical companies).
