Second in the country! First in the province! Our ophthalmology department has achieved another success.

Recently, the Brightness Center of the Ophthalmology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of University of South China stood out among 1,018 ~~brightness centers~~Brightness Centers across Chinaachieved the excellent results of “ranking second in the countryfirst in the province”.

The First Affiliated Hospital of University of South China is the first hospital with a Brightness Center in Hengyang designated by the National Clinical Research Center for Ocular Diseases. The Brightness Center project was jointly established by the National Clinical Research Center for Ocular Diseasesthe Beijing Bethune Charitable Foundation. Aiming to “maintain the continuous eye health of Chinese people, eliminate avoidable blindness in China,improve the treatment pattern of ocular fundus diseases in China”, the project is designed to establish a standardized diagnosistreatment process for fundus diseases, a feasible chronic disease management model,achieve “complete examinations, standardized treatments,regular follow-ups”.

The Ophthalmology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of University of South China is currently the only sub-center of the National Clinical Research Center for Ocular Diseases in Hunan Provincethe Hunan Provincial Clinical Research Center for Dry Eye Diseases. It is a large-scale ophthalmology center integrating medicine, education,research. The department has advanced diagnostictreatment equipment, including Zeiss high-resolution blood flow OCT, Zeiss fundus fluorescence angiography machine, Zeiss 532 fundus laser, Lumenis fundus laser, Alcon constellation vitrectomy phacoemulsification integrated machine,other internationally advanced fundus disease diagnostictreatment equipment. Currently, the department performs various surgeries for fundus diseases, including vitrectomy, retinal detachment surgery, epiretinal membrane surgery, macular hole surgery, intraocular foreign body removal, intravitreal injection,retinal laser photocoagulation.

Since the Ophthalmology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of University of South China joined the national Brightness Center in May 2021, it has precisely focused on fundus diseases, established a homogeneousstandardized fundus diagnosistreatment model, improved the management model for patients with chronic eye diseases, continuously optimized the medical service modelprocess,actively carried out multi-disciplinary cooperation to improve the efficiency of medical servicesenhance the patient’s medical experience. In addition, the hospital has strengthened the construction of the telemedicine collaboration network by building a medical consortium, utilized information technology to promote the extension of high-quality ophthalmology medical resources to the community level,conducted fundus disease screening for grassroots people in combination with physical examinations,provided comprehensive, fair, thereby providing accessible eye health services to the people in the region.

Next, the Ophthalmology Department will safeguard the bright futurebrilliant visual world of the people with practical actions. It will rely on the Brightness Center to establish a database for the management of chronic ophthalmic diseases. For chronic eye diseases such as fundus diseases, early screening, detection, diagnosis,treatment will be carried out, further improving the management of patients with chronic eye diseases. Moreover, the department will promote the popularizationpublicity of health knowledge,enhance public awareness of eye disease preventiontreatment.
